Stacey Spiegel
Co-founder & CEO

Stacey Spiegel is a new media visionary, visual artist, entrepreneur, and professor in Software Engineering and Game Design at McMaster University in Canada. He was previously a fellow at the MIT Center for Advanced Visual Study, then Adjunct Professor at the University of Toronto. As a renowned Canadian artist and accomplished new media installation designer, Spiegel has works housed in the collections of major Canadian art museums and has produced and directed over 40 major interactive projects, including installations for the likes of The Smithsonian Museum, British Science Museum and the governments of Canada and Norway. Spiegel has won numerous awards for innovation, including a 2002 Electronic Multimedia Awards (EMMA) for Technical Excellence and Innovation; a 2002 Innovation Award from the Interactive Multimedia Arts and Technologies Association (IMAT); and a Canadian New Media Award for New Media Visionary. Dr. Rodney Hoinkes
Co-founder, Managing Director & CTO

Dr. Hoinkes co-founded Parallel World Labs in 2006 with Spiegel based on the concepts, technology developments, experience, and public reaction to their European interactive/immersion art installations produced between 1994-1996, and on their history at Immersion Studios which they co-founded in 1997. At Immersion Studios, Rodney pioneered the development of Group Interactive Immersive Cinemas, Cultural MMOs, Serious Games, and Online Communities through more than 50 installed projects. He has received the 1992 Apple "Interfaces for the rest of us" Competition First Prize, 2002 International EMMA Award for Technical Innovation, 2002 Interactive Multimedia Arts and Technology Innovation Award, 2003 Canadian New Media Award for Programmer of the Year, and his team recently won the PC Game Design and Overall competition awards at the 2007 Vortex Gaming Competition. Rodney received his Doctorate of Design from Harvard in 1996 in the area of advanced visualization and knowledge management. He has more than 12 years direct experience in the development of interactive visualization software as Head of Design Applications for the Centre for Landscape Research at the University of Toronto. Rodney has developed interactive visualization and design software that has been used as the foundation for teaching and research in over 30 universities worldwide. He has taught at the University of Toronto, ETH, Zurich, and Harvard University.
